Are Your Children Safe?

Violence, crime, shootings, rape...are your children safe? Do you think about what part your children will play in these crimes? We want our children to be neither the victim nor the perpetrator of these horrible incidents. We can influence and guide children to help make their world safer and better.

We all have an innate desire to want to belong to a group, a club or a gang; a group that makes us feel important, safe and gives us a sense of purpose in life. Which group or gang our children decide to join will have a great deal to do with what our children hear and see at home. The family is our first group and is where we should feel welcome, safe, encouraged, responsible and loved. If this does not describe your family, we can change it now.

Wouldn’t it be nice to come home to a place where we felt important and loved and not abused or put down. We can and deserve to have that! Remember, though, we can really only change ourselves! So it must start with us; each day, slowly, a little bit at a time. Start now and don’t give up! Share with the others in your home safety, encouragement, responsibility and love.

  1. Great topic, i am working on a documentary exploring various issues and i am finding that if mom isn't safe then the youth are not safe in the home or in public. Challenging are the various mentality's that make up different personalities. Attended a conversation last night at the School District with F.A.C.E. about Support for Incarcerated Parents. Learned so much from the returning citizens and "Mothers In Charge" about our youth and what they go through when a parent is missing from the home. There was also a mother there with a son who is now a juvenile lifer. Do you have any resources to share that could enhance a family safeness and togetherness?

    1. Thank you for your comment. I have written a book on guiding children and about half is posted on Philly Parents. I am working on getting the rest of it entered. It sounds like you are doing great things! It is a difficult challenge, especially working with adults and teens who have already been abused. Perhaps we could effect more change if we started with very young children, not only in the home but also in preschools and daycare.
